Three Days on the Abel Tasman Track including Comfortable Private Accommodation & Nelson-to-Nelson Transport

This three-day walk is for those who prefer nicer accommodation at night. It includes one night on the Aquapacker boat and one night at the luxury Awaroa Lodge either staying in the luxury part of the lodge in a family unit or staying at the ABBA backpacker in your own unit*

This walk also covers more of the Abel Tasman Coastal track than the normal 3 day walk. Your luggage is transported by water taxi, so you only carry a day bag.

Itinerary

Day 1 (4 hours)

Depart Nelson and drive across the Waimea Plains, through Motueka, arriving at Marahau at the start of the Abel Tasman Track. From the car park, the track crosses a causeway and passes gradually from dry bracken ridges to an area of beautifully bushed gullies and headlands with ever changing views of the Astrolabe Roadstead and Adele Island. A small climb and then the track drops down to beautiful Anchorage Bay where we stay the night on the Aquapacker boat.

Day 2 (6 hours)

After a leisurely breakfast we cross Torrent Bay estuary or take the longer bush route if the tide is in. Today’s walk is mainly in the bush with lovely views of the coastline. We cross the swing bridge over the picturesque Falls River on the way and have lunch at Bark Bay. In the afternoon we visit Tonga Quarry and Onetahuti beaches on the way to Awaroa, where we stay the night in the accommodation of your choice, either the Awaroa Lodge or the ABBA Backpacker.

Day 3 (4 hours)

Once more, a leisurely breakfast followed by catching the Aquataxi to Mutton Cove at the northern end of the park. Here we visit the seal colony and majestic lookout of Separation Point with its wonderful views of Golden Bay followed by the beautiful walk to Totaranui via Anapai, a great swimming spot. This part of the track is regarded as the most picturesque of the whole coastal walk. At Totaranui, we catch the 3.00 pm water taxi back to Marahau for our return to Nelson or Motueka.
