The premier 6-8 day wilderness experience, situated right in the heart of the Kahurangi National Park. The track links the Tablelands area of Golden Bay to the Wangapeka Track. It is a tramping track, marked but not benched, and quite rough in places. Many of the streams are not bridged and flood prone. Strong footwear and a good level of fitness are required. For a Golden Bay start, we drive into the Cobb Valley, then climb to Balloon Hut for the night, or for a Nelson or Motueka start, we drive to the Flora carpark and climb to Salisbury Lodge for the night. The following day we descend into the Leslie river, following it downstream until we meet the Karamea river which we follow upstream to the Wangapeka saddle, then down the Wangapeka river out to Rolling Junction where our vehicle will be waiting for us. The track is mainly in spectacular river valleys with lovely lakes and lots of trout. All equipment has to be carried, so parties have to carry their share of food.
