A delightful easy 2 hour return walk to the dramatic cascade of the Waterfall.

The Wainui Falls are the largest falls in Golden Bay. We drive to Wainui Bay, looking over the place where Able Tasman first arrived in NZ in 1642. The well-graded track enters some real New Zealand jungle. We relate the natural history of nikau palms, rata trees and the varieties of tree ferns.

The river, which is choked by enormous blocks of granite, is crossed by a swing bridge, a short while later the falls can be heard and then, curtained in spray, they pop suddenly into sight.

Suitable for a morning or afternoon trip.
